Dublin, IRELAND –– Nov. 15th, 2011 – In order to support mobile network operators (MNOs) that are looking to alleviate the strain on their networks and offer new services, CommProve, a leading provider of network monitoring and business solutions for mobile networks, has today announced the launch of its BCN RAN Insight application. BCN RAN Insight enables operators to intelligently manage their networks and perform customer experience management in real-time.

CommProve BCN RAN provides operators with the ability to:

Take policy management actions only in congested areas where overall user performance is at risk while limiting actions in non-critical areas

Employ smart enforcing rules so that premium customers can be protected even in congested areas

Offer special pricing to users if they are accessing data services in non-critical RAN areas or promoting contract upgrades limited in time securing throughput rates to subscribers that join the offer.

“As more and more subscribers are downloading bandwidth intensive data and applications while on the move, operators are increasingly looking at deploying solutions which will enable them to maximize their network resources while growing revenue,” said Dr. Lars Pedersen, CommProve CEO. “CommProve BCN RAN Insight provides operators with such a solution, and it’s key to our company vision – enabling business, customer and network (BCN) intelligence at your finger tips.”

CommProve BCN RAN Insight

BCN RAN Insight collects and processes in real-time measurements from different interfaces of the radio access network (RAN). Deep packet inspection (DPI) measurements and RAN quality measurements are collected 24×7 network wide. Depending on the network deployment and the desired accuracy different interfaces can be probed: typically Iub/Iups are monitored. DPI measurements provide information concerning application and network level delays, re-transmissions, peak and average throughput, application type breakdown, both at the user-level and at the cell-level.

The cell-level information is essential in understanding if, how, and where, the load generated by the user is affecting the network availability for other users. This information is generated leveraging the BCN RAN’s correlation capabilities; user mobility is tracked and the actual cells serving the user are saved in a call detail record (CDR), along with all relevant signaling information.

Denver, Dublin, Germantown and Waterloo– October 11, 2011 – Leading solution providers aiming to enable monetization of Over-the-Top (OTT) video today announced the launch of CONNEXUS, a new and disruptive ecosystem and architecture aimed at enabling service providers, content providers and advertisers to become part of a connected value chain to deliver high-quality monetized video to subscribers in a multi-screen mobile and fixed broadband environment. CONNEXUS is the result of collaboration between, Spirent Communications, CommProve, BroadHop and Avvasi as founding members, who believe that mobile and fixed broadband service providers have a unique opportunity to enhance their service delivery architecture to dramatically increase relevance in the OTT value chain.

“Consumers are demanding a wide selection of broadcast-quality video on any device, at any time—and they’re willing to pay for it,” said Brian Partridge, vice president of network research at Yankee Group. “Service providers are currently facing an unprecedented win-win scenario: Improve customer satisfaction with OTT video by giving them the Quality of Experience they’re willing to pay for, therein monetizing this tremendous uptick in demand. CONNEXUS will bring the industry together to make this scenario a reality.”

The CONNEXUS architecture will focus on three primary goals:

Promoting the notion that service providers need to monetize OTT video and deliver a high quality of experience in order to fund the infrastructure capacity that will meet subscriber demand

Leveraging existing standards and associations to define how OTT video is delivered and monetized, and facilitate interoperability within the ecosystem

Accelerating the availability of integrated best of breed solutions across the OTT video ecosystem

OTT video streaming from sites such as YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer accounts for over 50% of Internet traffic. Service providers are already struggling to meet the demand that viewers place on their networks. A recent Nielsen study of media consumption trends reveals that the number of mobile OTT video consumers is growing by 41%, and the number of viewing hours is growing by 20%. This represents a significant opportunity for monetization but, because of the currently fragmented value chain, there is a substantial gap between total viewer penetration (10%) and the relative amount spent on advertising in that market (0.5%).

Service providers who want to monetize OTT video have an opportunity to create enormous value and therefore lucrative new revenue streams, however market fragmentation and lack of collaboration in the OTT value chain is preventing a pragmatic path to this opportunity. CONNEXUS is a disruptive architecture that enables a unique way of collaboration between vendors, service providers, content providers and advertisers to accomplish the shared goal of maximizing subscriber quality of experience, and delivering new video services and therefore new revenue streams for the entire ecosystem.

“The growing gap between exponential bandwidth demand and shallow revenue growth is no secret, and OTT video is the primary driver,” said Mate Prgin, president and CEO of Avvasi. “The CONNEXUS architecture seeks to address this issue by bringing together vendors committed to an open architecture for video service delivery. Reliable, high-quality video traffic management is the first step to QoE-differentiated subscription revenue which sets the stage for content monetization and, ultimately, ad revenue.”

BroadHop Inc., the leader in next generation policy control platforms for telecom operators, is among the first partners to join CONNEXUS. BroadHop enables service providers to control network resources in real time, monetize new services and applications, and deliver personalized, identity-based services in wireless and wireline networks. “Service providers need policy solutions that give them a competitive advantage and meet the unique needs of their particular infrastructure and subscriber base,” said Bill Diotte, CEO and President, BroadHop, Inc. “The BroadHop team works with service providers to help them successfully manage their network resources, build relationships with subscribers through individualized customer service and a superior user experience, and find creative new monetizing opportunities. We look forward to uniting with Avvasi, CommProve and Spirent under the common goals of CONNEXUS.”

The third founder member, CommProve enables network operators to gain real-time visibility into their operations to control financial performance, quality of experience and network performance. Dr. Lars Pedersen, CommProve CEO, said: “It’s an exciting time in the industry with the convergence of video, mobile and the Internet, and we are delighted to be part of today’s announcement. We look forward to working with the other members to bring video delivery solutions to market, enabling service providers to offer new video services, maximize the subscriber experience as well as maximize the return on their network investment.”

The fourth founding CONNEXUS partner, Spirent Communications, is a global leader in network, device and service testing and performance validation. Spirent’s integrated test & diagnostics and performance monitoring solution, Spirent TestCenter Live, enables service providers to take full advantage of Ethernet by delivering OTT services with greater efficiency, lower cost and increased scalability. Spirent’s vice president of service assurance, John Cunningham, commented: “Spirent’s leadership position in the service assurance of mobile backhaul and Ethernet/IP based services means that our solutions are a perfect fit in helping to deliver high quality OTT Video services. With Spirent TestCenter Live, providers have a means to monitor the performance of the mobile backhaul and Ethernet/IP circuits which deliver this service, while also isolating layer 2/3 issues when OTT QoS suffers.”

Barcelona, SPAIN – Mobile World Congress— February 15, 2011 — BroadHop, Inc., the network intelligence experts for service providers, and CommProve, the top innovation provider of network monitoring and business solutions for mobile networks today announced interoperability of their independent, best of breed solutions. BroadHop’s advanced next gen policy management platform, the Quantum Network Suite and CommProve’s RAN Insight, the state of the art application designed to dramatically improve radio optimization, will deliver the industry’s first intelligent end-to-end application and subscriber Radio Access Network (RAN) Congestion Management solution enabling service providers to apply radio policies based on subscriber service level and the application being used.

Both BroadHop and CommProve have realized increased interest and traction with several major operator groups worldwide as service providers look for alternate solutions that provide them with network intelligence and real-time policy management capabilities to prioritize network resources and stay ahead of data traffic spikes which threaten subscriber Quality of Experience (QoE) and application Quality of Service (QoS) and drive up CapEx.

The combined BroadHop and CommProve offering manageslocalized RAN congestion, maintaining the best quality of experience during congested periods to:

Apply targeted policies to intelligently manage subscriber, application, bandwidth usage and prioritize traffic based on subscriber plan, application, device type, location, etc.

Ensure fair access for all subscribers during network congestion periods.

Accurately track subscriber cell location to enforce policies only for devices active in a congested area without the need for additional location updates to be provided from the network.

Pinpoint top users and the specific application that is contributing to the cell congestion event so that intelligent policy decisions can be made to determine to whom and if an action should be taken.

Enable congestion event reporting to contribute to subscriber analytics, real time notifications, and feedback to customer service.

“Continually adding radio capacity isn’t economically viable and doesn’t address the volatile nature of today’s data traffic,” said Bill Diotte, CEO and President, BroadHop, Inc. “Quantum Network Suite’s high performance and massively scalable policy platform, was developed to deliver personalized subscriber-based services and innovative applications. Coupled with CommProve’s RAN Insight application, which adds active RAN congestion management, service providers can now apply radio policies based on subscriber service level and the application being used. The net result is an immediately enhanced user experience, optimized radio resources and delayed RAN CAPEX investment.”

“Most QoE issues are related to RAN and optimization is a top priority with operators. The integration of BroadHop’s Quantum Network Suite into RAN Insight empowers operators to better manage the explosion in data traffic from the many new smart phones,” said Lars Pedersen, CEO of CommProve. “Together, CommProve and BroadHop provide operators not only unique 2G/3G/4G intelligent network visibility but also the ability to apply policy management based on real-time information per subscriber in a ‘who-what-where’ format.”

Dublin, January 11, 2011 – CommProve, the top innovation provider of network monitoring and business solutions for mobile networks, today announced that it has become a member of the Network Intelligence Alliance (NI Alliance), a new industry organization created for collaboration among the Network Economy’s technology providers. Participation in theNI Alliance will help CommProve to build and market innovative solutions for customers seeking to maximize their profit and revenue while keeping the network quality at a sustainable level.

In today’s Network Economy accurate visibility and precise tracking of data crossing networks have become crucial to the availability, performance and security of applications and services. The growing complexity of IP transactions, the explosion of mobile applications, and the mainstream adoption of cloud computing surpass the capabilities of conventional tools to improve how networks operate. Just like Business Intelligence solutions emerged to unlock information hidden in the enterprise, Network Intelligence technology is an emerging technology aimed at revealing the critical details of the data locked inside network traffic and transactions.

The NI Alliance serves two purposes: first, as a forum for collaboration among technology providers whose solutions secure data in transit, ensure efficient data delivery, monetize data transactions or track real-time information. Through the NI Alliance, members can better serve their customers.

The NI Alliance also seeks to educate the market and the public on the role and value of Network Intelligence in protecting sensitive information; delivering value-added services, applications and information; and ensuring better performance of network-dependent solutions.

CommProve includes Network Intelligence within CommProve Complete™ Solutions to transform operators’network data into profitability. The Network Intelligence will boost the mobile broadband network monitoring capabilities of CommProve Complete™ to improve the visibility of mobile traffic at various layers of the network, in order to identify and troubleshoot precisely where in the network subscriber Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) issues arise.

“We are proud to be a member of the Network Intelligence Alliance. As the telecom value chain is changing and money may flow away from the infrastructure providers, difficult choices have to be made concerning CAPEX purchases, which will affect business performance for many years to come,” says Lars Pedersen, CEO of CommProve.”Network Intelligence capabilities will help us to address the business element in the network in an effective way.”

Operators need a powerful tool to prevent RAN congestion in the areas where standard subscribers are blocking the network for VIP subscribers. Having different types of subscribers, an intelligent selection can be made based on customer profiles by differentiating between the VIP subscribers versus the standard subscribers, the location and type of service accessed (e.g. email, P2P, streaming etc.). The CommProve RAN congestion detection solution, through real-time monitoring across the different network interfaces will provide valuable information about the services being used by different subscribers in different areas of the network. Combined with a mobile traffic steering solution this allows increased revenues and reduced CAPEX and OPEX by optimizing the usage of the available network infrastructure resources.

“CommProve is a valuable addition to the NI Alliance and we welcome their participation,” said Erik Larsson, Chairman of the NI Alliance. “The NI Alliance is about collaborative innovation with companies like CommProve who plays a leadership role in mobile network monitoring. Working with other NI Alliance members, CommProve’s customers will be able to more effectively leverage Network Intelligence to better manage, protect and profit from their data networks.”

Establishment of the NI Alliance was initiated by Qosmos, whose Network Intelligence technology components provide the crucial first step in understanding what’s passing through networks. Qosmos’ hardware and software components extract and interpret real-time traffic—translating a data stream’s 1s and 0s into their respective communications protocols, metadata and content for use by third-party applications.

Through the NI Alliance, Qosmos expands its collaborative approach to help vendors design and deliver advanced solutions with embedded Network Intelligence technology in less time and at lower cost. The NI Alliance provides a channel for dialogue and partnerships that Alliance Members otherwise may not have considered or pursued when addressing the needs of joint customers. Visibility within the vendor community through the NI Alliance affords companies opportunities to market more comprehensive solutions with greater ROI and faster time to value for customers.
